In the ten years since I last posted as Mountain Girl, many things have happened, as one might expect. At 19, I advised readers to “‘keep moving forward…’ what if you can’t tell which way is forward? Decisions, right and wrong, define us. There has never been a point in our lives that we haven’t made decisions… The point is, everyday, however minor your decision-making is, you keep on moving.” And I suppose that the last decade has proven just that: life has kept on moving, and I’m running right alongside it.
In a nutshell, I graduated from the community college I was attending with an Associates, moved back to New Mexico (ah, to smell the roasting green chiles once more!), worked at a ski area in the patrol clinic and as a photographer, continued my summers at Philmont until 2018 (more on that later… maybe), met and fell in love with my now husband, got a dog, started a “big girl” job, left said job, had a baby – now toddler! – (henceforth known as “Turkey Butt”), and finally finished my Bachelors in History. To elaborate, I never knew where I was running or what I was running to, and I guess I still don’t, but life has a beautiful way of spitting you out where you need to be.
So, I’ve reopened the blog, and while there will not be any live-entertainment or specials going on at this grand reopening, I hope you’ll join me nonetheless. While I may mention some aspects of my life and tidbits of advice here and there, I’d like for this version of Mountain Girl to discuss history. I’ll primarily focus on history of the Southwest (usually early 19th century to mid 20th), food and food history, and my outdoor and historical adventures, but as with life, who knows where each week will take us. So come on in and move forward with me… except backward? To quote my 19 year old self once more “From here on out, Friday’s are your favorite! For more than the obvious reason of it being Friday…”
TGIF,
Mountain Girl
